LG KM900 Arena Device Presentation, MWC 2009

and finally:
The multimedia subpage seems to be not quite convenient if you have a lot of pictures (Before believing everything in the video, think "Cache" and "Thumbnail". They might have did something before presenting). If you have lots of MP3s, especially when you don't have the album art stored, you will surely face massive problem in scrolling.
Oh, btw, the three buttons on the bottoms seems to be sensored by heat, will it work if air temperature > 37 degrees?

iPhone/Tocco/Diamond whatever Themes for KU990
This phone is known for its flexibility to customize due to the fact that its a massive Flash Player.
Some FAQs for the customization of KU990 (in additional to those you can find in the wiki courtesy of the MyGreatPhone UK)
Q: Can you change the operating system to Windows Mobile?
A: In short: NO WAY. While you can change the layout of almost all the graphics of KU990, its system is totally independent to Windows Mobile.
Q: How about the layout of Windows Mobile?
A: Up to today, there is no themes resembling WM6 to our best knowledge. But there is a similar theme that mimics the TouchFLO of a HTC handset (and they call it "Diamond"), it is yet to be released though.
Q: And Samsung F480 Tocco?
A: Yes, the official thread here.
Q: There must be the ever-popular iPhone theme.
A: True, there are actually a range of options, each one with different scale of similarity to iPhone. One example:

Touch Diamond2 - HTC's new phone announced in MWC
There were two notorious problems that gives irritates Diamond users: speed and battery. Diamond2 is taking a bold move to resolve the two problems.
Speaking of speed, the CPU is now upgraded to QUALCOMM 528MHz with 288MB RAM and 512MB ROM. Of course, due to WM restraints, its speed is no way comparable with iPhone. With the nefarious TouchFLO still around to devour Diamond2's phone system resources, believing the blatant lie of "as fast as iPhone" is going to disappoint you.
Specifications (according to HTC's Official site for Diamond2):
CPU: Qualcomm® MSM7200A™, 528 MHz
Operating System Windows Mobile 6.1 "Professional", 512 MB ROM, 288 MB RAM
Dimensions: 108 X 53 X 13.7 mm
Weight: 118g (Diamond is 112g)
Display: 3.2-inch touchscreen, resolution 480 X 800
Network: HSDPA/WCDMA/Quad-band EDGE
Connectivity: Bluetooth 2.0 EDR+ A2DP, 802.11b/g, GPS,
Camera: 5.0 megapixel
Battery Capacity: 1100 mAh
Talk time: Up to 5 hours
Standby time: Up to 500 hours

Meizu MiniOne M8 is already out
When iPhone 2G just came out, M eizu had immediately responded with design pictures with similar graphs like iPhone 2G, at that time copycat cries were heard all over the net, but after two long years, the first phone of the very company finally came out in mainland China on December 2008.
Here are some specs:
Talk Time: 370 minutes
Standby Time: 179 hours with SIM card, 374 hours without SIM card
Music playback time: 21.5 hours
Dimensions: 108mm x 59mm x 12mm
Weight: 118g
Misc: accelerometer, Light detection, Infrared range detection, touch screen.
Camera: 3.2 Megapixels
. . . and of course, no 3G. Besides, 802.11g wi-fi and Bluetooth 2.0 EDR+ support are deliberately omitted in the mainland build as a compliance to the State Law of China, but there is the hardware and one can easily unlock the functions.
Meizu M8 is based on the relatively unpopular Windows CE 6.0, but its speed it impressive. Worth a try if you can get one around. If you shop by Internet, just don't get ripped off, never pay 500€ for the phone. We have reliable sources confirming that the new version with wi-fi, bluetooth, multilanguage support international version will be available on March 2009.

Running out of space for your Windows Mobile 6.1?
No, we are here and we might be of some help.
If you use Windows Mobile MSN Live Messenger, that might be the problem. This software will download the display picture of your contacts (AND NOT ERASE THEM). To make things worse, when your contact change the picture, the stupid program just download the new picture . . . and leave the old ones intact! So, somehow you have a couple of weirdo friends who made a slideshow of display pictures, you will download a crap load of display pictures of them.
To solve this, simply go to your phone's system folder and erase the oldest display pictures, and your phone will be smoother. If you don't know the exact folder path of your phone, leave your brand and model below as comments and we will get notified and update this page.

Thickness: 0.91cm or 0.36 inch
Price: US$359
Speed: 20% faster than Kindle

This is what Amazon said:
We’re excited to introduce Amazon Kindle 2, the next generation wireless reading device. With a sleek and thin design that makes Kindle 2 as thin as a typical magazine and lighter than a paperpack, the new Kindle has seven times more storage and now holds over 1,500 books. It has a longer battery life and faster page turns. An advanced display provides even crisper images and clearer text for an improved book-like reading experience. And Kindle 2 even reads to you, with “Read to Me”, our new Text to Speech feature.
With Kindle 2 we kept everything readers love about the original Kindle—the convenience of reading what you want, when you want it, the immediacy of getting a book wirelessly delivered in less than 60 seconds, and Kindle’s ability to “disappear” in your hands so you can get lost in the author’s words. We’re also excited to announce that the Kindle Store has over 230,000 ebooks available.

How to change the font for LG KU990 Viewty
The English fonts on KU990, "LG_Vector" look nice in most cases, but for Chinese fonts, even the font style is way better than SonyEricsson or Nokia's defult font, the font style can be improved.
Warning: Inexperienced users might brick the phone during the process. Please stop reading if you are not familiar with the "EFS_MEDIA_BUILDER" software (a software for hacking KU990, more information on MyGreatPhone UK's wiki). Never try this unless you know what you are doing!
Step 1:
Get your favorite .TTF font, but mind that: 1) it can only be .TTF, no .TTC or .FON files; 2) the font display on phone might shrink for some fonts.
Step 2:
Load the EFS, and use the "TOTO method" to rename the file, i.e. rename the LGAPP folder to TOTO or anything else, as a backup measure. Disconnect and restart the phone.
Don't panic if you see the yellow "REFRESHING. . ." screen.
Step 3:
Reconnect using EFS, go to TOTO/Media/Font and rename the LG_Vector.ttf (or LG_Vector_Gothic.ttf) to anything else.
Step 4:
Rename your favorite font to LG_Vector.ttf (or LG_Vector_Gothic.ttf) and put into TOTO/Media/Font, and then rename the TOTO folder back to LGAPP. Disconnect and restart and you should see the change.

Toshiba TG01 - Yet another "iPhone killer"?
Toshiba has just
HSDPA, Wi-Fi, GPS are a must for any reasonable iPhone killer, and we need no introduction for these.
The eye-catching specifications for TG01 are:
- A giant 4.1 inch screen featuring 800 x 480 resolution.
- Less than 10mm thick, which is thinner than both iPhone and HTC Diamond.
- A 1GHz CPU chipset. To quote SlashGear, TG01 "is the first device to use Qualcomm's 1GHz Snapdragon QSD2850 chipset."
- A long battery duration capable to sustain multimedia uses as the CPU can regulate its speed. No info on battery capacity yet.
Too bad this very brand is notorious for its poor voice quality, the fundamental function required for proper communicate. If the voice quality is the same as G800/G910, we will continue recommending reader not to buy one.
The rumoured launch date is not earlier than Summer 2009, before that, will it be possible that another brand launched a better phone? Windows Mobile 6.5 might probably be launched by then.

LG Arena KM900, another copycat of iPhone?!
The layout and color scheme is fairly unoriginal. What phone is it trying to mimic?

Nokia E63 - Basic Blackberry-style QWERTY Phone
Nokia E63 - Basic Blackberry-style QWERTY Phone
Mimicking as a Blackberry-style QWERTY business phone, Nokia E63 is sometimes regarded as a watered-down version of the popular handset of the same brand, E71.
For a budget smartphone 200€ you can't really ask for trendy stuff like GPS or 7.2MB HSDPA. It is:
- 113x53x13mm, 2mm thicker than E71, but still compact though.
- UTMS 900/2100 or 850/1900
- Wi-fi (802.11b/g)
- Bluetooth 2.0 EDR
- Screen size 2.3", resolution 320x240
- 2.0 Megapixel camera (1600 x 1200, 1.92mp)
- 3.5mm audio jack! How often can you find a non 2.5mm jack for a Nokia phone? Props to Nokia.
E63 features two distinctively sharp colors - dark marine blue, and red for users with different business styles. (As a side-note, this machine has the same name as a model of an AMG saloon. Though with this color scheme, we doubt that Mercedes Benz E63 AMG users would be interested in this E63.)

The death of WiMAX?
Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition Internet Tablet |
In Hong Kong, licenses for use of spectrum for wireless broadband "WiBB", (or "BWA", broadband wireless access) has been awarded to network service providers, three providers took the spectrum from 2.5GHz to 2.69Ghz. However, the spectrum profile for WiMAX in Hong Kong, 2.3GHz, was not interested by any providers.
Coincidence? Who knows.

Review Update: Bad bugs for Philips GoGear LUXE SA24
- The software of the GoGear is disturbingly unstable for us. Calls, regardless incoming/outgoing, sometimes do make your LUXE halt. And by sometimes we means around 25% probability, which is absolutely too high to tolerate.
The 25% probability means you have to drop the bluetooth connection and return to phone, and sometimes this machine won't respond unless you pin the reset hole.
To make things worse, you need to bring your own pin. - The shuffle list is seriously bugged. It has really stupid shuffle system. You turn on the machine in shuffle music mode, play the first song (A), and the next song is (D), and (F)(B)(E)(C) for example. Now you turn it off or reset it due to the bug in problem (1).
Restarting the machine and the GoGear LUXE will go back to the ADFBEC sequence, with absolutely no reordering. Someone please tell us how on earth is it qualified as "shuffle"? - The reception of headset is unstable and depends on luck. If you switch back to phone, the problem is gone, so we're 100% sure it's the headset that matters.
Without a viable update of firmware, we have to downgrade the headset to a 3/10, for it fails to provide an acceptable quality of telephone conversation.
